Yilan County Government

The wetland is located at Lanyan Plain south of Lizejian Bridge on Dongshan River Drainage Basin. It extends north to Provincial Highway 7C, south to Chengxin Road and Chujie West Road, east to Provincial Highway 2E (Licheng Road Section 1), and west to Linheyuan Drainage Ditch.

The wetland borders the Pacific Ocean on the east, Xueshan Range on the northwest, and Central Mountain Range on the south, forming a pocket that makes this area prone to orographic precipitation. Typhoon strikes often in summer and the northeast wind brings in lots of moisture in autumn and winter. The low elevation, torrential rain and underground spring often result in waterlogging in this area.

The buttonbush and small-leaved barringtonia, 2 of the rare dicotyledon species, can be found in this wetland. There are also 10 naturalized species, including 1 dicotyledon and 9 monocotyledons.
In terms of bird species, 40 families and 102 species are recorded, including 6 protected species such as the pheasant-tailed jacana, brown shrike and osprey. The vast geographic range offers great biodiversity. The farmland and fallow field, especially, offer food for the Anatidae, Solopacidae, Charadriidae and waders during winter.

The management authorities should strictly prohibit construction of concrete banks in order to protect the wetland's rare and valuable plants, such as Small-leaved Barringtonia and Common Bottom-bush.
