  • Introduction

Beinan Estuary Wetland is located towards the tail of Coastal Mountain Range where the south of East Rift Valley transitions into the ocean. Similar to Sinwuli River Wetland that is upstream Beinan River, this is also a wetland of national importance. The two wetlands are two jewels on Beinan River, providing great biodiversity. In addition, located on the flood plain, Beinan Estuary Wetland offers a wide range of wetland types. One can observe river wetland, marsh lake wetland, constructed lake, paddy rice fields, ponds, ditches and lagoons. The area is well worth protecting.

  • Ecological resources of importance

The vast river bed within Beinan Estuary Wetland, the farmland, wasteland and even the forest park in the south are important for the resident and transient birds. The protected species would rest, breed and raise the nestlings here. The diverse habitat also attracts various species, including estuary shorebirds (little tern and osprey), marsh shorebirds (greater painted-spine and oriental pratincole), and birds that gather at wasteland (common pheasant) and grass area among the woods (brown shrike, Styran’s bulbul and black-naped oriole).
