  • Introduction

The wetland is located in a flat agricultural zone with its main water supply from Jianan Big Ditch Irrigation system. Water is distributed from Wushantao Reservoir to the wetland through Jianan Big Ditch in accordance with the annual irrigation plan for rice and other crops set by Jianan Irrigation Association. The eggs or larvas of fish, amphibians, conches, shellfish and other aquatic creatures also flow from the reservoir into the ponds in the wetland.

  • The current situation and potential threats of wetlands

The Jacana Restoration Area is located at sandy farmlands with severe water seepage, making it difficult to preserve water. Thus, the area often suffers water shortage in spring, which negatively affects the growth of aquatic plants and indirectly influences jacana restoration efforts.
