  • Introduction

Nanren Lake Important Wetland is located in the Nanren Mountain Reservation that is in the northeast corner of Kenting National Park. Located south of the tropic of cancer, the area is populated with tropical forests. The influence of monsoon and down-slope wind creates an environment where temperate, subtropical and tropical forests coexist while each is being compressed. This area is important for long term research on the habitat. Nanren Lake Important Wetland is the largest confined water habitat within Nanren Mountain Range. Located in the lowland, Nanren Lake and the main water body gradually became fresh water marshes because of drainage issues. In the past, the water from the wetland could flow north through Hongtu River into Zhongang River. In 1982, the levee was built. Hongtu Estuary was waterlogged due to human factors and gradually formed the central water body. Yilan Lake is a small lake that took shape naturally.
