  • Introduction

Longluan Lake Wetland was a low-lying wetland that was designated as a large reservoir for irrigation and flood control. After Kenting National Park was established, this area was designated as a special scenic area. It provides an important habitat for the migratory birds. In addition, Longluan Lake Nature Center is the first exhibition hall designed specifically for bird watching and research.

  • Ecological resources of importance

Longluan Lake is an important area for migratory birds. Records from past years show that over 70% of the birds recorded here are migratory birds. Each year, a new bird species is discovered. Based on the research of Kenting National Park Headquarters, there are 58 families and 285 species of birds, and 58 are protected species, including the oriental stork, black-faced spoonbill, eastern imperial eagle, peregrine, Chinese egret and pheasant-tailed jacana. In addition, there are 16 families and 48 species of amphibian species. Among them, 6 are protected species, including the Botel gecko, yellow-margined box turtle and sharp-nosed viper.

  • Endangered species

Oriental White Stork, Black-faced Spoonbill, Peregrine Falcon, and Black-naped Oriole.

  • Rare and valuable species

There are 41 species of birds including Grey-faced Buzzard Hawk, Grey Frog Hawk, Large Cuckoo-shrike and Pheasant-tailed Jacana, and four species of amphibians and reptiles.

  • Types to be conserved

Brown Shrike, Bithynia manchourica, Baikal Teal.

  • The current situation and potential threats of wetlands

The water birds' habitat was destroyed by humans in surrounding lake areas. After including the surrounding wetlands into "special landscape zone" inside the National Park, the management authorities believe it will alleviate the pressure of destruction and protect ducks and other waterfowl in the wetland.
